Research topics for students and academics

We sometimes get asked for research questions we would be interested in having answered by student dissertations and academic research. Here are some examples of the questions we would like answered:

  • Why is it so difficult to get new stations open on the railway network to coincide with new homes? What needs to change?
  • Why do tram systems only get built in the most exceptional circumstances?
  • What level of public transport is needed from day one of housing occupation to prevent car dependency?
  • Is there a optimal density to prevent car dependency?
  • Where are new homes being built with sustainable transport and why are they succeeding?
  • How equitable are new housing estates and who is excluded by design?
  • How much of the outcome of transport and new homes is down to the planning system? Are other factors having more of an impact?
  • International comparisons.
